GRASSLAND
Location
The distribution of grassland across the globe
Located in every continent except Antarctica:
Argentina - pampas
Australia - downs
Central North America - plains and prairies
Hungary - puszta
New Zealand - downs
Russia - steppes
South Africa - veldts
Climate
In the winter, temperatures can go below -18 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, in the summer, the temperatures can reach 32 degree Celsius at their peaks. Therefore, temperatures can swing between temperature extremes. In a year, rainfall is generally between 25 cm and 75 cm.
Wildlife
Little rain means few trees.
Vegetation:
As mentioned before, this biome only receives 25 cm to 75 cm of rain in a year, which is insufficient to support trees. Grasses' ability to penetrate deeply into the soil enable them to grow in this kind of environment. In addition, this ability helps to reduce erosion and conserve water. The more precipitation the area receives, the taller the grasses. Some examples of vegetation in this biome are buffalo grass, cacti, sagebrush, perennial grasses, clovers, and wild indigos.
Animal:
Savannas, which are tropical grasslands are home to the greatest number and different types of large herbivores. Some animals that live in this biome are elephants, giraffes, rhinoceros, rabbits, mice, lions, and snakes.
